What is Career Counselling

When you hear about the term Career Counselling, your first question would be what is this career counselling, then let me tell you, when a person consults someone, the process is called Counselling.  Just like that when  a person can consult someone about their career, then it is called Career Counselling.

In Career Counselling, you take advice and tips on your future  what you should do next and what should not be done, from where you should do that and where not, should you  continue your studies or not. Nowadays, career counselling is very prevalent in India, now students go to the counsellor to ask what they should do next, in which admissions are taken and in whom not.  For example, if a student has passed the tenth class, then the counsellor will be asked by student in which stream should he took admission in class 12th.

In short, Career Counselling is a process by which a person provide guidance to a student for his future.

How to choose a good Career Counsellor

If you are thinking about taking career counselling, then you should consult a counsellor who knows the job of every sector well, he should know about every influencing factor which affects the  student. He knows everything about current trends, counsellor must be have good communication skills.

Process of Career Counselling

First of all, the counsellor student who is in counselling will know what subjects he has studied, what subjects he had, then he will know about his hobbies and interest and then ask him what he wants to do in his future because the student will be the person who will take the final decision.

After knowing everything about it from  student, the parents will ask that what do people want their child to do, what he thinks will be best for his child.  Because in India parents keep guiding their child from childhood on what they should and should not do. India also has many parents who try to impose their dreams on their calves, they think that what they cannot do will be done by their children, then they continue to put a lot of pressure on them, This is problem of every second or third parents.

Knowing the child and his parents’ likes and dislikes, the counsellor will assess all the information according to the child’s qualifications, after which he will create a counselling program for that child. After that he will conduct sessions according to the counselling program.  In some sessions student and parents came apart, in some they all comes together and in final session they all will be sit together to take decision to take final decision.
